Pharmacists' Union of Marrakech

Pharmacists' Union of Marrakech

A union serving the profession

The SPM was established in the early 1970s.

It is governed by Dahir Law No. 1-57-119 of July 16, 1957 on professional unions and is named the Union of Retail Pharmacists of Marrakech.

The union's purpose is to:

  • Defend pharmacists' interests and study and implement all means to achieve this.
  • Strengthen professional solidarity and ensure compliance with the code of ethics.
  • Establish periodic contacts with various professional activity sectors.
  • Establish and submit to the regional council of retail pharmacists of the south and the Wilaya of Marrakech the duty service for Saturdays and Sundays, public holidays, and pharmacy opening and closing hours.
  • Manage any economic project adopted by the general assembly in accordance with applicable law.
  • Organize sports and socio-cultural activities.
  • Participate in scientific progress.
  • Contribute to the development of social hygiene.
  • The union is managed by a board renewed by half each year, composed of six to ten members elected for two years by the general assembly.

Board composition:

The ordinary general assembly renews by election the outgoing half. Among the elected members and remaining members, the assembly elects the board president.

The elected board must, by consensus or election, allocate the other positions:

  • One to three vice-presidents
  • A General Secretary
  • A Deputy General Secretary
  • A Treasurer
  • A Deputy Treasurer
  • And optionally, one to two assessors

These roles are voluntary and unpaid. Presidential candidates are encouraged to present their program outline to the assembly.

Board powers:

The board has the broadest powers to manage affairs and defend union interests. It handles everything not assigned to the general assembly by law or statutes.

It decides on new member admissions and may exclude any member who violates these statutes, professional regulations, or the law.

It develops internal regulations, and specialized committees will be formed under its authority, grouping union members interested in:

  • Manufacturing
  • Import and distribution
  • Biology
  • Any other activity related to any sector of the profession

It collects dues and all sums owed to the Union, and manages available funds. It makes or authorizes all expenses and acquisitions of movable or immovable property for the Union. It submits all projects, contracts, or agreements with other groups to the General Assembly for approval. It accepts donations and bequests, takes possession of property or real estate rights, and receives all subsidies. It preserves, manages, and disposes of all movable and immovable assets. It provides opinions on professional matters. It represents the Union in court. It consults with other professional associations to study and defend economic interests. It convenes ordinary or extraordinary General Assemblies, sets their agenda, and submits proposals. It executes all General Assembly resolutions. It represents the Union of Retail Pharmacists of Marrakech in all circumstances. It may, in the profession's interest, enter into various agreements or partnerships with organizations.

No board member can be held personally and separately liable for commitments made on behalf of the Union within their mandate.

Arbitration, mediation, ethics

It will report to a council composed of former Presidents of the Pharmacists' Union of Marrakech, who may call on other expertise among former colleagues in Marrakech. The council's opinion is advisory.

Its responsibilities are:

  • Reflection on the future of the profession and major professional issues
  • Recourse for arbitration or mediation in case of dispute within the pharmaceutical body of Marrakech
  • Its recommendations may help and guide the Union board in decision-making, but must not oppose the application of board decisions
